First Team…
Since 1990 we have competed primarily in the Wearside League (Step 7). Between 2011 – 2015 we competed in the local ‘Cumberland County League’ but again returned to the Wearside League in 2016 looking to challenge ourselves at the highest possible level.
The Wearside League is made up of teams from the the North East, which makes the challenge for us (given our West Cumbrian location) an even tougher one, but also one that we welcome. The furthest we travel is to Hartlepool, approximately 258 miles round trip and over the season we travel roughly 3710 miles in total! Of course this also plays in our favour when visiting teams make the trip to us at the Falcon Complex!
In recent years we’ve found it tough competition not achieving our targets but we’re very much starting over, re-building the first team and other aspects off the field, all of which are starting to benefit the club significantly. The 2020-21 season saw us make a good start in the league campaign and we’re confident we can pick up where we left off when the time comes!
The squad is made up of local lads many of which have played for the club since their youth football days. We’re lucky to have a thriving youth section and the number 1 objective is for us to see as many players as possible from our junior and Reserve teams make it through to the First Team. We’re always looking to improve and build on what we’ve got and we welcome the opportunity to work with players from elsewhere too.
History!
The club formed in 1950 and played in the West Cumberland League (WCL) for most of the 50’s and early 60s. In the mid 60’s we had teams in the WCL (Windscale United) and the Derwent Valley league (DVL) (Windscale Rovers).
The DVL folded in 1969 so both teams played in the WCL with Rovers becoming the “Reserves” in 1974.
In 1983 the 1st team entered the Furness Premier League, the reserves stayed in the WCL. This takes us to 1990 and our association with the Wearside league began. (About us).
